As promised, here is my second installment on Elite Resentment. There’s a lot here: 19th-century Social Darwinism, white grievance, paternalism and above all a relatively obscure thread of conservative thought that helps explain why rich white guys are angry today. Also, perhaps more than other essays, the title in this case means something significant. Sumner was a teacher at Yale, so this is also a reflection on liberal arts pedagogy.
